Product Overview

tri-Potassium Citrate Monohydrate 99% Extra Pure (CAS No. 6100-05-6) is the monohydrate of the tripotassium salt of citric acid. Its citrate anion contains three carboxylate groups together with a hydroxyl functionality, giving the material pronounced acid–base buffering and multidentate metal-ion complexation behaviour in aqueous systems. The defined monohydrate identity distinguishes this catalogue form from anhydrous tripotassium citrate and requires preservation of its hydration state during storage.

The Extra Pure grade is suited to routine laboratory preparations in which citrate is required as a soluble potassium salt, buffering constituent, complexing reagent or source of citrate ions. Its combination of aqueous solubility, buffering capability and metal-binding behaviour makes it useful across general solution chemistry, preparative work and materials-oriented investigations.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of citrate-containing buffers and laboratory reagent solutions.
  • Complexation and controlled speciation of metal ions in aqueous experiments.
  • Source of citrate ions in coordination and inorganic chemistry studies.
  • Preparation of citrate-containing reaction media for general laboratory synthesis.
  • Investigations of citrate-mediated precipitation, crystallisation and solution equilibria.
  • Routine formulation and method-development work requiring a soluble tripotassium citrate reagent.

Common Synonyms

  • Tripotassium citrate monohydrate
  • Potassium citrate monohydrate
  • Potassium citrate tribasic monohydrate
  • Citric acid tripotassium salt monohydrate
  • Tripotassium 2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylate monohydrate

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container protected from humid air because the monohydrate is hygroscopic and can undergo moisture uptake. Minimise prolonged exposure to the atmosphere to preserve the intended hydration state, assay characteristics and freedom from extraneous contamination.
