Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

Toluene 99.8% For HPLC & UV spectroscopy (CAS No. 108-88-3) is an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent supplied for chromatographic and spectroscopic procedures requiring controlled organic-solvent background. Toluene can function as an organic mobile-phase component, sample solvent or strong hydrophobic modifier in method-specific liquid chromatography. Its aromatic chromophore also produces intrinsic UV absorption, so spectroscopic use is restricted to wavelength regions and measurements where the solvent background is compatible.

The HPLC & UV Spectroscopy grade is intended for chromatographic sample preparation, method-specific mobile-phase use and optical measurements employing toluene as an aromatic solvent. It is particularly useful in non-polar separations and spectroscopic procedures at compatible wavelengths.

Typical Applications

  • Organic component in method-specific HPLC mobile phases.
  • HPLC sample dissolution and dilution of hydrophobic analytes.
  • Chromatographic extraction and sample preparation.
  • UV spectroscopic solution preparation where solvent background is compatible.
  • Preparation of toluene spectroscopic blanks.
  • Method development involving strongly hydrophobic aromatic solvent systems.

Common Synonyms

  • Methylbenzene
  • Toluol
  • Phenylmethane

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and protect from particulate, organic and ionic contamination that could increase chromatographic or optical background. Minimise evaporation during repeated analytical use.
