Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

Tetrahydrofuran 99.5% Specially Dried AR (CAS No. 109-99-9) is THF supplied in a specially dried form intended to reduce the contribution of moisture to non-aqueous laboratory systems. The cyclic ether remains a strongly coordinating polar aprotic solvent and is particularly useful where water can interfere with organometallic reagents, reactive intermediates or moisture-sensitive analytical preparations. Specially Dried does not imply absolute dryness or any unprovided numerical water specification.

The Specially Dried AR grade is intended for analytical and preparative procedures in which moisture introduced through the solvent influences reaction or measurement behaviour. It is particularly useful for water-sensitive synthesis, reagent preparation and non-aqueous analytical work requiring reduced moisture contribution from tetrahydrofuran.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of moisture-sensitive non-aqueous reagent solutions.
  • Solvent for organometallic and Grignard-type laboratory chemistry where reduced moisture is required.
  • Analytical sample preparation sensitive to water.
  • Solvent exchange into reduced-moisture reaction media.
  • Preparation of water-sensitive standards or reagents where method-compatible.
  • Non-aqueous coordination and reaction studies.

Common Synonyms

  • Oxolane
  • Tetramethylene oxide
  • 1,4-Epoxybutane
  • THF

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and minimise exposure to humid air so that the reduced-moisture character is preserved. Also minimise prolonged air and strong light exposure because THF can form peroxides.
