Potassium Iodide 99% Extra Pure (CAS No. 7681-11-0) is an inorganic potassium halide that provides iodide ions in aqueous and other compatible polar media. Iodide is readily oxidised to iodine by suitable oxidants and forms polyiodide species, particularly triiodide, in the presence of molecular iodine. It also acts as a nucleophile and as a source of iodide for precipitation, substitution and coordination chemistry.

The Extra Pure grade is suited to general laboratory reagent preparation, iodine chemistry and preparative work requiring a soluble iodide source.

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed and protect from prolonged exposure to air, humidity and strong light to minimise oxidation of iodide and formation of iodine-related discolouration. Prevent contamination by oxidising substances during dispensing, particularly where colour and iodide content are important.
