Product Overview

Potassium Hydrogen Sulphate 98% Extra Pure (CAS No. 7646-93-7) is the monopotassium acid salt of sulphuric acid and contains the hydrogen sulphate ion. It behaves as an acidic inorganic sulphate and can provide strongly acidic conditions when dissolved or when employed in high-temperature bisulphate chemistry. This acidic character distinguishes it from neutral dipotassium sulphate and underlies its use in acidification, fusion and preparative sulphate chemistry.

The Extra Pure grade is suitable for general laboratory synthesis, acidic reaction media, inorganic sample treatment and preparative work where potassium hydrogen sulphate is required.

Typical Applications

  • Acidification of laboratory reaction and reagent mixtures.
  • Bisulphate fusion or high-temperature treatment of suitable inorganic materials.
  • Preparation of acidic sulphate media for inorganic synthesis.
  • Acid-catalysed laboratory transformations where potassium hydrogen sulphate is appropriate.
  • Source of hydrogen sulphate in solution and solid-state chemistry.
  • General preparative and materials research involving acidic sulphate salts.

Common Synonyms

  • Potassium bisulphate
  • Potassium bisulfate
  • Potassium hydrogen sulfate
  • Potassium hydrogensulfate
  • Potassium acid sulphate
  • Acid potassium sulphate

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed and dry because potassium hydrogen sulphate is hygroscopic and moisture uptake can alter handling and weighed composition. Prevent contamination with alkaline material, which would partially neutralise the hydrogen sulphate and change its acidic character.
