Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

n-Butyl Alcohol 99.5% AR (CAS No. 71-36-3) is an analytical-reagent form of the linear primary alcohol butan-1-ol. Its hydroxyl group permits hydrogen bonding, while the four-carbon chain provides sufficient hydrophobic character for partitioning between aqueous and organic environments. This balance makes the solvent relevant to extraction, phase-distribution and non-aqueous analytical procedures.

The AR grade is intended for precise analytical work of a general nature, including preparation of reagent solutions, sample extraction and laboratory quality control. The stated grade does not automatically establish GC suitability, certified reference status, controlled spectroscopic background or performance in methods requiring specially dried solvent.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of analytical reagent and sample solutions where 1-butanol is method-compatible.
  • Liquid–liquid extraction of suitable organic substances and metal–ligand complexes.
  • Solvent and reagent blanks for conventional analytical procedures after method-specific verification.
  • Recovery, partitioning and phase-equilibrium studies involving aqueous and butanol-rich phases.
  • Non-aqueous analytical procedures and method-development work requiring an AR-grade primary alcohol.
  • Laboratory quality-control investigations involving alcohol purity, solvent behaviour or extraction efficiency.

Common Synonyms

  • 1-Butanol
  • Butan-1-ol
  • n-Butanol
  • n-Butyl Alcohol
  • Normal Butyl Alcohol
  • Propylcarbinol

Storage Conditions

Keep the container tightly closed and protect from evaporation, moisture and laboratory contamination. Limit prolonged exposure to air to maintain analytical cleanliness and consistency in solution preparation and extraction work.
