Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

iso-Propyl Alcohol 99.7% Specially Dried AR (CAS No. 67-63-0) is 2-propanol supplied in a reduced-moisture form for applications in which adventitious water introduced by the solvent can influence analytical or chemical behaviour. The secondary alcohol retains the normal solvent and hydrogen-bonding properties of isopropanol, while the Specially Dried designation specifically places emphasis on preservation of reduced moisture contribution rather than implying absolute anhydrous composition.

The Specially Dried AR grade is intended for conventional analytical work and reagent preparation where lower solvent-borne moisture is technically advantageous. Suitable use includes water-sensitive solution preparation, non-aqueous analytical media and procedures in which uncontrolled addition of water from ordinary solvent could affect reaction or measurement conditions.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of low-moisture analytical reagent solutions.
  • Sample dilution in procedures sensitive to adventitious water.
  • Non-aqueous analytical media requiring specially dried isopropanol.
  • Moisture-sensitive wet-chemical and reagent-preparation procedures.
  • Washing or solvent-exchange operations where reduced water contribution is advantageous.
  • Laboratory QC and method development involving controlled solvent moisture.

Common Synonyms

  • Isopropanol
  • 2-Propanol
  • Propan-2-ol
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • sec-Propyl alcohol
  • IPA

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and minimise exposure to humid air so that the reduced-moisture character of the Specially Dried solvent is preserved. Limit prolonged contact with air because isopropanol can form peroxides during storage, and avoid conditions that concentrate aged solvent without appropriate peroxide control.
