Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

Hydrochloric Acid 10% Extra Pure (CAS No. 7647-01-0) is a dilute aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride that provides strongly acidic aqueous conditions together with chloride ions. Dissociation of hydrogen chloride in water makes the reagent effective for protonation, neutralisation, dissolution of acid-reactive materials and conversion of compatible bases, oxides, hydroxides and carbonates into chloride-containing systems.

The Extra Pure grade at 10% concentration is intended for routine laboratory procedures in which a comparatively dilute hydrochloric acid solution is convenient for controlled acidification and reagent preparation. Its concentration supports direct use or further dilution in general chemical work, preparation of chloride solutions, acid-catalysed transformations and laboratory treatment of compatible materials without requiring handling of a more concentrated acid solely to obtain a moderate working strength.

Typical Applications

  • Routine acidification of aqueous laboratory solutions
  • Preparation of dilute hydrochloric acid working solutions
  • Neutralisation of compatible alkaline solutions and reagents
  • Preparation of chloride salts from suitable bases, oxides, hydroxides and carbonates
  • Acid-catalysed hydrolysis and related laboratory reactions
  • Dissolution of acid-soluble inorganic materials
  • Preparation of chloride-containing reaction and formulation media

Common Synonyms

  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Hydrogen chloride solution
  • Aqueous hydrogen chloride
  • Muriatic acid
  • Chlorhydric acid

Storage Conditions

Keep the container tightly closed and protect the solution from excessive heat, evaporation and contamination to minimise concentration change and loss of dissolved hydrogen chloride. Use clean transfer equipment and minimise prolonged exposure to open air when preserving the stated solution strength.
