Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

Chlorobenzene 99% For Synthesis (CAS No. 108-90-7) is the simplest monochlorinated benzene, containing a chlorine substituent directly bonded to an aromatic ring. The aryl carbon–chlorine bond is less susceptible to ordinary nucleophilic substitution than an alkyl chloride, but it can participate in metal-catalysed coupling and activated aromatic substitution procedures. Its aromatic, aprotic solvent character also makes it useful for reactions requiring elevated temperatures.

The Synthesis grade is intended for preparative organic chemistry as a reaction solvent, aryl halide substrate and intermediate in the preparation of substituted aromatic compounds. The stated purity supports general synthesis and all the basic laboratory applications.

Typical Applications

  • High-boiling aromatic solvent in preparative organic reactions.
  • Aryl chloride substrate in palladium-, nickel- or copper-catalysed coupling studies.
  • Starting material for substituted chlorobenzenes through electrophilic aromatic substitution.
  • Substrate in activated nucleophilic aromatic substitution and organometallic reaction development.
  • Reaction medium for polymer, resin and high-temperature synthesis studies.
  • Preparation of phenyl- and chlorophenyl-containing organic intermediates.

Common Synonyms

  • Monochlorobenzene
  • Phenyl Chloride
  • Benzene Chloride
  • Chlorobenzol
  • Benzene, Chloro-
  • PhCl

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container protected from evaporation, excessive heat, direct sunlight and contamination. Promptly reclose after dispensing to preserve solvent composition.
