Product Overview

Ammonium Acetate 96% Extra Pure (CAS No. 631-61-8) is the ammonium salt of acetic acid, providing ammonium and acetate ions when dissolved in water. Its combination of a weakly acidic cation and weakly basic anion gives the compound useful solution behaviour in buffer preparation, ionic adjustment, and reactions requiring a readily soluble source of either ammonium or acetate species.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for routine laboratory preparation, general synthesis, research, and educational procedures. It is suitable for preparing ammonium acetate solutions, establishing controlled aqueous reaction media, supplying nitrogen during selected preparative transformations, and supporting inorganic or organic procedures in which a non-metallic acetate salt is required.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of ammonium acetate solutions and buffer systems
  • Source of ammonium and acetate ions in laboratory reactions
  • Adjustment of ionic composition in aqueous experimental systems
  • Reagent in selected organic synthesis and heterocyclic-compound preparation
  • Preparation of other ammonium or acetate-containing intermediates
  • Routine research and educational work in solution and salt chemistry

Common Synonyms

  • Ammonium Ethanoate
  • Acetic Acid, Ammonium Salt
  • Ammonium Aceticum
  • Ammonium Acetate Salt

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location. Protect the material from atmospheric moisture and contamination, as ammonium acetate is hygroscopic. Reseal the container promptly after dispensing to preserve product composition and free-flowing quality.
