Product Overview

Adipic Acid 99% Extra Pure (CAS No. 124-04-9) is a straight-chain aliphatic dicarboxylic acid containing two terminal carboxyl groups separated by a four-carbon methylene chain. This difunctional structure enables it to participate readily in salt formation, esterification, amidation, and condensation reactions, making adipic acid an important building block in organic synthesis and polymer chemistry. It is particularly recognised as a precursor for polyamides, polyesters, adipate esters, and other derivatives in which both carboxyl groups contribute to molecular-chain formation.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for routine laboratory work, research, general chemical synthesis, and material-development procedures requiring dependable reagent quality. It is suitable for preparative investigations involving dicarboxylic-acid chemistry, polymer-forming reactions, derivative preparation, and comparative laboratory studies where adipic acid is used as a reactant or intermediate.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of polyamide materials, including nylon 6,6 systems
  • Synthesis of aliphatic polyesters through condensation with suitable diols
  • Preparation of adipate esters used as plasticiser and lubricant intermediates
  • Production and investigation of polyurethane and other polymer systems
  • Preparation of adipic acid salts, derivatives, and synthetic intermediates
  • Esterification, amidation, and polycondensation reaction studies
  • Laboratory preparation of cyclopentanone and related transformation products
  • Academic, research, and industrial investigations involving dicarboxylic-acid chemistry

Adipic acid is established as a monomer and intermediate in polyamide, polyurethane, polyester, plasticiser, lubricant, coating, adhesive, sealant, and elastomer chemistry.

Common Synonyms

  • Adipic Acid
  • Hexanedioic Acid
  • 1,4-Butanedicarboxylic Acid

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container in a dry, well-ventilated place. Protect the material from moisture and contamination, and segregate it from alkalis and other alkalising substances. Reseal the container promptly after use and handle the powder in a manner that limits dust accumulation during storage and dispensing.
