Product Overview

Acetyl Acetone 99.5% AR (CAS No. 123-54-6) is an analytical reagent grade β-diketone containing two carbonyl groups separated by an active methylene group. Also known as acetylacetone or 2,4-pentanedione, it exhibits keto–enol tautomerism and readily forms acetylacetonate species capable of coordinating with metal ions. These characteristics give the compound distinctive importance in analytical and coordination chemistry, particularly in procedures based on complex formation and selective extraction.

The AR grade is intended for analytical, quality-control, research, and academic laboratories requiring controlled reagent quality and consistent performance. It is suitable for preparing analytical reagents and test solutions, investigating metal–ligand interactions, and conducting extraction-based procedures in which the purity and chelating behaviour of acetylacetone influence the reliability of the results.

Typical Applications

  • Chelating reagent in analytical chemistry
  • Extraction and separation of selected metal ions
  • Selective extraction and determination of molybdenum in ferrous materials
  • Preparation of metal acetylacetonate complexes for analytical studies
  • Preparation of analytical reagents and laboratory test solutions
  • Investigation of metal–ligand equilibria and complex-formation behaviour
  • Quality-control and routine analytical laboratory procedures
  • Academic and research experiments in analytical and coordination chemistry

Acetylacetone has an established role as an analytical extraction reagent and as a ligand capable of forming coordination complexes with various metal ions.

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, protected from light. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, strong oxidising agents, and other incompatible materials. Reseal the container promptly after dispensing to prevent contamination and maintain reagent quality.
