Product Overview

Potassium Metaperiodate 99% Extra Pure (CAS No. 7790-21-8) is the potassium salt of metaperiodic acid and contains iodine in the +7 oxidation state. Periodate is a selective high-valent oxidant particularly recognised for oxidative cleavage of substrates containing suitably arranged neighbouring oxygen-bearing groups, including vicinal diols. This reactivity provides access to carbonyl-containing products and makes periodate useful in organic, carbohydrate and materials chemistry.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for preparative oxidation, functional-group transformation and research work requiring a defined periodate source.
