Product Overview

Potassium Iodide 99% AR (CAS No. 7681-11-0) is a soluble iodide salt whose anion is readily and stoichiometrically oxidised to iodine by many oxidants under controlled analytical conditions. The liberated iodine may then be determined directly or by reaction with a suitable reductant, forming the basis of numerous classical iodometric methods. Excess iodide also increases iodine solubility through formation of polyiodide species.

The AR grade is intended for conventional iodometry, analytical reagent preparation, oxidant determination and laboratory QC where potassium iodide is specified. Its use depends on the stoichiometry and reaction conditions of the particular method, and the 99% assay implies its universal suitability for most of the laboratory qualitative and quantitative procedures.

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and protect from prolonged light, humid air and oxidising contamination to limit conversion of iodide to iodine. Analytical containers and dispensing tools should be clean so that traces of oxidants do not introduce iodine colour or alter reagent blanks.
