Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

N,N-Dimethyl Formamide 99.8% GC-HS (CAS No. 68-12-2) is a headspace gas-chromatography grade of DMF intended for procedures requiring a high-boiling polar matrix solvent with controlled volatile impurity background. Its broad solvating ability permits dissolution of numerous water-insoluble organic and polymeric samples, while its comparatively low headspace contribution can support transfer of more volatile analytes into the gas phase under validated equilibration conditions.

The GC-HS grade is intended for residual-solvent testing, volatile-impurity analysis and preparation of headspace blanks or non-certified working mixtures. DMF can function either as the sample matrix solvent for other volatile analytes or as the analyte when a suitable alternative diluent is used.

Typical Applications

  • High-boiling diluent or matrix solvent in method-compatible static headspace GC.
  • Residual-solvent analysis of organic, polymeric and other water-insoluble samples.
  • Preparation of GC-HS solvent blanks and procedural blanks.
  • Preparation of non-certified residual-solvent working mixtures.
  • Investigation of volatile impurities in DMF-compatible matrices.
  • Determination of DMF as a residual solvent using a validated alternative matrix medium.

Common Synonyms

  • N,N-Dimethylformamide
  • Dimethylformamide
  • Dimethyl Formamide
  • N,N-Dimethylmethanamide
  • N-Formyldimethylamine

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container protected from humid air, excessive heat and headspace-chromatographic contamination. Use clean, dry dispensing equipment and minimise opening to preserve water content and the low volatile-impurity background required for reproducible headspace blanks and sample preparation.
